Rise’s 2018 Strategic Plan identifies a need to focus on new employee onboarding and retention of new employees. The Human Resources intern will work directly with the Human Resources team and be responsible for completing many of the tactics for implementing this strategy. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. The goal of this internship will be for the candidate to gain a better understanding of the role Human Resources can play in a non-profit setting, and be better prepared to work in the human resources field and non-profit sector.

  • Develop and implement a 90 day onboarding program for all staff
    • Assist in implementing iCIMS (applicant tracking system) onboarding portal
    • Develop training for managers on how to use portals
    • Research best practices for onboarding
    • Outline comprehensive onboarding process for staff
    • Collaborate with Learning and Development HR intern and Quality Assurance to ensure onboarding meets training needs and license requirements
    • Survey what parts of Rises current orientation are working and what's not
    • Use survey findings to redesign new employee orientation
    • Leverage Person Centered Thinking (PCT) tools in new employee onboarding process
    • Incorporating more team building exercises in onboarding to welcome new staff
    • Develop & implement "citizenship campaign" for new & current employees


Internship Deliverables:

  • Training guides for onboarding portal
  • Onboarding processes for staff 
  • Orientation survey 

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with new employee orientation
  • Create orientation packets on a bi-weekly basis for new employees.
    • Assist with updating orientation packets as needed.
  • File employees’ documents and/or paperwork into appropriate employee/other files.
  • Maintain confidential and work history files. Ensure files are kept up to date and that access is limited to only those people who have the need and authority to review them.
  • Additional duties and project related work.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program.
  • Competencies or previous experience in nonprofit management, human resources, training or adult education preferred

  • Passion and aptitude for working in Human Resources, or non-profit management/ administrative fields.
  • A self-starter who proactively handles challenges and issues as they occur.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and internet applications including data entry experience.
  • Strong attention to details and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player with high energy, drive and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortability working in a fast paced environment with many different activities and projects happening simultaneously
  • Compliance with DHS background check and fingerprinting

Time Commitment:

  • 35-40 hours per work for 3 month minimum
  • Tentative start late early June
