Rise’s 2018 Strategic Plan identifies a need to focus on training for employees. The learning and development intern will work directly with the Human Resources team and be responsible for completing many of the tactics for implementing this strategy. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. The goal of this internship will be for the candidate to gain a better understanding of the role Human Resources can play in a non-profit setting, and be better prepared to work in the human resources field and non-profit sector.

  • Conduct comprehensive training needs assessment and inventory of trainings offered
    • Develop a staff development survey to understand needs for professional development
    • Interview managers and team members to learn personal, programmatic and general training needs
    • Assess trainings offered in person or through Rise’s training system (Star LMS) and current trainers within the organization and their training qualifications
    • Review regulations and requirements of the different licensing /accrediting bodies to ensure that we are providing the necessary training to meet requirements
  • Create a training and development plan with Rise staff for all Rise team members
    • Identify what training topics could be built of uploaded into Star LMS
    • Based on the plan, intern will either pilot creating new training or plan how to roll out of training curriculum in Star LMS and offer in person trainings with internal trainers
  • Develop training plans that are position-specific for each service line to ensure internal best practice sharing.
    • Identify core competencies for staff in each program service line
    • Based on comprehensive Rise training and development plan develop roll out of training plans, and plan to close any gaps identified in training needs assessment.

Internship Deliverables:

  • Training needs assessment
  • Staff development survey
  • Inventory of current trainings and trainers within the organization
  • Report of findings from assessment and inventory for recommendations
  • Training plan template, and service line specific training plan templates.
  • Potential additional deliverables depending on internship timeline
    • Pilot creation and upload of new training

    • Manual for using and building new trainings in Star LMS

Additional Job Responsibilites:

  • File employees’ documents and/or paperwork into appropriate employee/other files.
  • Maintain confidential and work history files. Ensure files are kept up to date and that access is limited to only those people who have the need and authority to review them.
  • Additional duties and project related work.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program.
  • Competencies or previous experience in organizational development, nonprofit management, human resources or adult education

  • Passion and aptitude for working in Human Resources, or non-profit management/ administrative fields.
  • A self-starter who proactively handles challenges and issues as they occur.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and internet applications including data entry experience.
  • Strong attention to details and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player with high energy, drive and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortability working in a fast paced environment with many different activities and projects happening simultaneously
  • Compliance with DHS background check and fingerprinting

Time Commitment:

  • 35-40 hours per work for 3 month minimum
  • Tentative start early June
