Legislation influences the work Rise does on a daily basis. This position organizes stakeholders to ensure the needs of people with disabilities and the services they receive are prioritized in legislation.


  • Coordinate internal audiences to advocate to legislators and government officials for improved services for people with disabilities.
    • Work with staff and people with disabilities served by Rise to conduct activities like organizing a visit to the capitol or a letter writing campaign.
  • Schedule visits for legislators to come and tour Rise locations and work sites.
    • Communicate with legislators and staff to coordinate the visits and gather materials needed for legislators.
  • Work with families of people Rise serves and volunteers to mobilize them on issues related to disability services.
  • Work in partnership with Volunteer Programs Intern to utilize advocacy volunteers to advance Rise’s policy priorities.
  • Promote Rise’s policy agenda through drafting email communications and social media.
  • Collaborate with external partners and similar organizations to ensure Rise’s activities are in sync with other messaging.

Qualifications & Benefits

  • Highly organized and self-directed personality
  • Background in politics preferred
  • Must have access to transportation for mobility to all Rise sites


  • Rise North office in Spring Lake Park, MN
  • Travel to other Rise locations and work sites in the Twin Cities Metro Area and Central Minnesota


Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 10-20 hours a week
  • Available during the legislative session from early February to late May (exact start and end date are flexible)



  • Expand knowledge of government affairs and legislative processes
  • Broaden your professional network through developing relationships with legislators, government officials, people with disabilities and other industry agencies
  • Participate in industry leading services to people with disabilities and help drive Rise’s mission
  • $500 stipend depending on commitment and qualifications
