The Program Development intern will work directly with the Volunteer Coordinator to support Rise’s volunteer program by assisting with the development on a wide range of projects. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical; with a goal for the intern to gain an understanding of the role volunteer programs can play for non profits and be better prepared to work in the non profit sector in the future.



  • Develop program of activities for Volunteer Appreciation Month and Week in April

o   Support Volunteer Coordinator to plan and execute activities to recognize Rise’s volunteers and show off our Volunteer Program

o   Create communications plan  and materials to promote the volunteer program and special events

  • Advocacy Volunteers

o   Work with Rise’s Government Affairs intern to utilize Advocacy Volunteers to promote Rise’s legislative initiatives

  • Internship Program

o   Assist in planning the orientation and curriculum for Rise’s 2018 Summer internship cohort 

  • Create a Volgistics Documentation Guide

o   Develop a manual for using Rise’s volunteer database


Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment

o   Research and connect with potential community partners and volunteer recruitment platforms

o   Attend volunteer and internship fairs

o   Post volunteer openings

  • Conduct volunteer screening, placement and onboarding
  • Collaborate with managers to develop new and creative volunteer opportunities for their programs
  • Support volunteer communication efforts including recruitment and continued engagement
  • Track volunteer hours and run reports in Volgistics

Qualifications & Benefits


  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program
  • Background in volunteer management, marketing, communications, non-profit management or event planning preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A self-starter who proactively handles challenges and issues as they occur
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications
  • Strong team player with high energy, drive and a positive attitude
  • Compliance with DHS background check and fingerprinting 


  • Spring Lake Park location with visits to other Rise locations


Time Commitment:

  • 10-20 hours per week for 1 semester minimum


  • Gain a deeper understanding of the role Volunteer Programs play in a non-profit setting
  • Participate in industry leading services to people with disabilities and help Rise’s mission
  • Broaden your professional network through developing relationships with Rise team members, volunteers and community partners
  • $500 stipend depending on commitment and qualifications
